Drupal expert wanted to create educational (songwriting) e-commerce store.
I started building this site in custom PHP+SQL before realizing it's best done in Drupal. Since I'm new to Drupal, I'm hiring an expert, and I will just be the project manager.
Main initial features:
- teacher posts binary document (video, audio, or pdf) and sets its price
- student can buy document to download it
- student's paid documents are permanently available in download area
- teacher lists available hours for consultation, and price-per-hour
Thoughts on using Drupal for Songwork:
Drupal's "node" is perfect for our "document" (which can be PDF, video, audio, bundle/combination, course consisting of many documents/nodes, etc).
Module to make a node available for paid users only.
E-Commerce module. node as item in cart?
Scheduling module?

Or I make scheduling REST service elsewhere & Drupal module hits it
I'd need to get Drupal expert in near the beginning to architect this. I'm not as used to the Drupal mindset yet.
TODO:
2008-08-07 : Met with Steve Seskin and he's wondering how we go about getting this happening.
########### TECH:
So he has lots of videos, audio, and documents.
Kept outside of webroot and only gettable to paid members. (/getfile/h7Yoq41/SomeFileName.mp3 requires cookie for key)
Each document has a comment board and history.
Courses are a bundle of documents.
persons name email etc is_admin bio photo
documents person_id mediatype url description priceref
comments person_id course_id document_id consultation_id comment created_at
courses name description priceref
APRIL 24, 2009 - DEREK'S THOUGHTS ABOUT SONGWORK:
Version 0.1:
- homepage
- sample video and audio on homepage
- user management
- receive payment (one item at a time)
- pay for archived video a-la-carte
- database of what's been paid-for
Version 0.2:
- subscribe for archived video
- schedule one-on-one consultation
- shopping cart
Version 0.3:
- scheduled classroom sessions (max# students), that become archived video when done
- courses (bundles of consultations, documents, video, etc)
etc.
Starting super-simple then adding the "version infinity" features as we go.
FROM: Steve Seskin. April 2009 - Areas of my concern
Videos editing Jonelle
Uniform look to the videos on the site. Even though they are from different sources they should be grouped and have headers that tie them together.
The Look/design of the site logo?
Print media and printed matter about the site to hand out to people at conferences etc.
Trial subscriptions. How long should the subscription be for? One year? Two?
Renewable? At a discount? Pricing of subscription and individual videos. Catherine is doing some research about this.
Steve has 10-15 hours of video footage. They filmed a lot at Taxi. Amazing song-session. A song was transformed. It was unbelievable. A great advertisement for doing this. (And the artist believes so, too.)
Every Thursday night, Pat is recording 3 hours of video and editing it down to 1 hour. Berklee students film it and edit it.
One thing that came up : How do we house all this video? (I told him that's easy.)
Video chat : only people who have the software can participate in that. The teachers would enable themselves to use whatever people have.
Hi Gaurav -
Here are some MuckWork thoughts. Sorry I've been out of touch.
First: your email about MuckWork philosophy:
You're right, the goal is definitely to be able to help anybody. Even the smallest $5 project should be fine.
My guess is that MuckWork will add a 5-10% management cost on top of the agent's fee, to pay for the technology and management (you).
