Felix Bölter

“While thinking and writing about what makes someone an adult, I realized that 1. it's a never-ending process and 2. you are either thrown into this process through a painful confrontation with fate, at which point it's to late to aquire the necessary skills to cope with it gracefully - or you enter that process of adulting by choosing to work on those skills systematically and early enough. Therefore, I think the term "adult" is misleading. I came up with a new word in German - the language I write in - for someone who actively works on his preparedness for life: "Erwachsender" ("an adulting person").”

What do you do?

I write about the challenges of becoming (more of) an adult and how I try to deal with them.

Why?

I think about adulthood because I consider it way too important and difficult to wing it. I write about it because it helps me to think. I publish my writing because it keeps me from procrastinating.

What should we read?

"4000 Weeks" by Oliver Burkeman
