What do you do?
I am a writer who sketches with an ink pen. I inspire people to leave their own paper trail of pictures and words. I am also a mom of six learning to live a debt-free, simple, pared-down life.
Why?
I learn for myself—and teach my kids—by following rabbit trails of thinking and gathering irresistible resources. I can't help recording life. Nothing makes me happier than to connect someone with a thought, book, product or experience that ignites their passion too.
What should we read?
To the Kwai—and Back: War Drawings 1939–1945 by British artist Ronald Searle. The young Searle, still in the middle of art school when he enlisted, was held in the same Japanese prison-of-war camp as my grandfather. These gripping drawings, sketched under extreme duress, on stolen paper, at risk of torture if discovered, remind me that if Searle can create under such circumstances, then surely I can in mine.
