Elizabeth Hummel

“There is so much in life I cannot make sense of, that even the smartest people, living or dead, cannot truly seem to make sense of. So much to grieve. Humans really are not all that smart--my main takeaway from the film Oppenheimer. But I need to try to make sense of life anyway. More importantly, I need to love and live this short life fully.”

What do you do?

I make music and write to heal myself and connect with others.

Why?

I need to create to be sane and deal with the pain in me and all around me. I also need to bring some balm or insight or joy to others, especially to those nearing the end of their lives who often feel ignored or discarded. I do it for the little miracles and magic that happen when I trust the process and open my heart.

What should we read?

The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese.
