I'm reading Dennett's Intuition Pumps, and Rapoport's Rules stuck with me: before you criticize someone's position, restate it so well they'd say "I wish I'd put it that way." It's the same move I lean on in coaching. Play it back before you push back.
Location:
Austin, Texas, U.S.A.
Professional title:
Engineering leader and coach
What do you do?
I lead engineering teams and coach the people who run them.
Why?
Watching someone get genuinely unstuck is the most satisfying part of any week. Not when I hand them the answer, but the moment they see it themselves. It gives me the same joy as finally solving a hard coding problem.
What should we read?
The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier
