If you aren't the thing that others accuse you of being, you don't have to defend yourself or correct them. They either know you, or they dont, and all you can do is continue to be yourself and let people think what they think.

Hospitality Operations Expert by day Writer/Creator/Community Organizer by night

What do you do?

"By day" I kill time at a local pub, making connections, serving food, slinging drinks, and creating experiences until I can follow my heart "by night", tutoring humanities students online, interviewing folks for their memoirs, engaging in activism and community engagement, while cultivating a digital mind garden to catalog and track my insatiable desire for knowledge and academic fulfillment.

Why?

Despite craving the structure, I knew a traditional vocation was not going to be part of my story. Working in hospitality is fast paced, always changing, and never boring, so it is an acceptable way to pay the bills while I pursue my many other passions and interests. I have a desire to be true to myself and the experiences I want to have in this life while also giving of myself where I can to improve the quality of life of others through activism and social justice work challenging the systems of oppression that pit us against each other.

What should we read?

I'm currently re-reading Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. Widely seen as the first modern novel, it tells the story of knight-errant Don Quixote as he fights for the values of chivalry and justice, even if the world he sees is only visible to himself.
